FREE Piano Chord Guides

Find chords in ANY key…INSTANTLY!

free chord guides 1

If you want to find or use major and minor chords, here are some printable Piano Chord Guides I made for you. Slide them into position, and ALL the chord notes in ANY key are clearly marked for you!

What about stickers?

Please, NO!

Piano Chord Guides (and Piano Key Guides and Piano Scale Guides)  are a much better alternative to putting stickers on the keys of your beloved instrument. I would strongly recommend that you never put stickers on the keys of your piano or keyboard, even if the instructions say ‘easy to remove’ or ‘won’t leave marks’. I have seen keys ruined by them! These printable piano chord guides can be moved around, removed and replaced whenever you need them.

How to print and cut

Print on paper or card. Thin card is more hardwearing, but paper is okay, too. You can laminate them to make them last even longer…but if they wear out, just re-print them!

Print at 100% for standard piano keys; other keyboards may require adjustment. For example, Yamaha keyboard keys often work well at 97%. If you can’t adjust print size, try Adobe Acrobat Reader (it’s free.)

Then cut out along the outlines of each chord guide.

How to find your chords

Choose between the major or minor chord guide.
(Or choose from ten more chords at the bottom of this page!)

Find the root note of your chord on the piano (use these FREE Piano Key Guides to help if needed.)

Slot your chord guide immediately behind the back edge of the keys (just in front of the felt strip if there is one) and slide it along until the number 1 is directly behind the root note.

For example, here’s the position for a D major chord. The number 1 is lined up with the back of the D key. All of the notes in the D major chord are now clearly marked:

major chord guide on D

You can see that the notes of the D major chord are D, F# and A.

Similarly, here’s the chord of F sharp (F#) minor, using the minor chord guide (minor 6th and minor 7th chord guides available at the bottom of this page):

The minor chord guide is lined up with the back of the F sharp (F#) key:

minor chord guide on F#

The chord guide now clearly shows you the notes of the F sharp minor scale: F#, A and C#.

And the great thing is…

It works with ANY key!

Just slide it to where you need it.

You can now find TWENTY-FOUR chords: major and minor, starting on any of the 12 pitches on your piano!
